The brief for St Columba's Catholic College encompassed learning spaces, display galleries, student lounge and covered outdoor gathering areas, each requiring a lighting response that balanced functional performance with architectural integration. Uniform, high-quality illumination was delivered across flexible hands-on learning environments and workshop spaces to support focused activity and visual comfort, while gallery and lounge areas were approached with greater nuance, using light to create atmosphere and give presence to student work on display. Throughout, lighting complemented the architectural fabric, reinforcing the language of each space and maintaining a cohesive character across the project. The outcome is a school environment where light supports the way students learn, gather and move through the campus, from the focus of a classroom to the energy of an outdoor gathering on a shared evening.
